Door lock-driver side

Fellow listers-
The  driver's side exterior lock is NG on my 89 Audi mod 90. I have taken
the door apart and have noted that the key lock mech is moving freely but
not connected with the electric locking mech. Looks like a mechanical
linkage prob. Upon further investigation I determined that the whole window
track needs to come out. Anyone done this and are their gotchas in
adjustments etc when you get it out???Any help appreciated.
