Re: [a4] I want to race...

Dan,

I'm an active member of the Washington DC Region of the SCCA.
If you're serious about racing I can give you all the details you want and
point you in the right direction.
The closest "Race Track" to DC is Summit Point near Harper's Ferry in West
Virginia. There are different levels of racing and you need to be licensed (
by the SCCA) to drive in some events and classes. The easiest way to get
involved is to look at the website (www.wdcr-scca.org) and then look at
coming to a meeting. Monthly meetings are held at a variety of locales on the
second Tuesday of every month. September's meeting is going to be held at the
Holiday Inn in College Park near the exit from the beltway to US 1 north.

Alternatively, a fun run event and driver's school is being held by the QCUSA
Potomac Chesapeake Region in October (info on the website as well). That
would be a good way to get your feet wet and see how your car measures up.

By the way, the A4 in either modified or unmodified form does not qualify for
any SCCA class in Road Racing. It does fit in to one class for Autocross and
possibly one for Solo with some further (safety) modifications. The best way
to find out what class the A4 fits in is to go to the SCCA national website
and see the General Competition Rules.

I just spent the entire weekend at Summit Point (in the deluge) racing in the
double MARRS event. No points but a lot of fun. The last race of the season
is Sept. 25-26. Try to come up for the day on Sunday for the real racing,
Saturday is for qualifying.
Directions are on the WDCR website.
