I met a friend of theirs on 495 north of Boston. I'm coasting at about 65mph
in the right lane with my exit coming up semi-soon (leisurely driving my
Caprice,
not intending to squeeze over at the last minute), thick traffic in left 2
lanes;
way ahead, there are two cars in the stop lane. A guy in a Corsica had stopped
behind a stranded car, and was leaving. While I'm approaching, and slowing down
to 60 (still no way to get in the middle lane, which I'd do out of courtesy), he
gets
in the car and quickly pulls out (not quickly accelerating - Corsica, like I
said),
virtually right in front of me! Yes, the Caprice has good brakes; all the junk
on the
seat got embedded in the passenger footwell; I got down to his speed about 1-2
car lengths behind him, at which point he swerved back onto the emergency
lane (and looked over at me as if it was my fault for surprisingly being there).
Behind me, BTW, the lane was empty before and after this stunt. But waiting for
oncoming/crossing traffic to get close before suddenly pulling out seems to be
a specialty of drivers around here.
