Re: Keyless remote on 89 200TQ

I installed a JC Witney Keyless remote in my 89 2000TQ about 2 weeks
ago and
it has been working pretty good. I found the newer Whitney keyless
remote system
to be better than the older one I have in my other car. It sure saves
wear on the
 lock/alarm assembly.

I am sure you could adopt it to the 92 and up Audis.

The following is what I did:

I used the wiring schematic from (Http://20v.0rg/20v/remote.htm) and
it
works great with the alarm system. The wiring is pretty much the same
 for the 89 to 91 200's.

I wired and installed eveything next to the glove compartment.

The JC Whitney system does not use the Lock NC and unlock NC wiring as
 shown.

1.The first thing I did was tape the two relays together and wired them
up then I connected the remote box up and powered it up.

The wires that were not connected to anything were:

         a. line 3 - goes to anti-theft unit (Br/G wire)
         b. Line 8 - goes to anti-theft unit (Br/Y wire)
         c. Line from vacuum pump. (Bl/Y wire)
         d. line to vacuum pump from door lock. (Bl/Y wire)
         e. 12VDC (Using temp. to power unit)
         f. Ground (Using temp for ground)

 2. Used an ohm meter and hooked it up to c. & d.. When I pressed the
remote button the ohmmeter showed that I was loosing continuity between
c. and d.
for a second which told me that it is was working correctly so far.

 3. I removed the glove box and footwell duct bracket that has the light
 and alarm box on it.
Found the wire coming from the right door lock (Bl/Y). I then cut
that wire and spliced in lines c. and d.. C. went to line coming from
pump and d. to
 line coming from door lock.

 4. Wired lines a. and b. to wires on anti-theft unit large connector.
 5. Wire lines e. and f. to wires on anti-theft unit small connector.
This has power and gound all the time.

 6. After I wired this all up I had about 3ft of line so I put the
relays
in back of the radio and put the footwell duct bracet back in. Put
the remote box to
the right of the heater vent door and tie wrapped all the wires along
the same bracket as
 the vacuum lines are tied.

 7. Pulled the right panel off the side of the windshield and strung
the
antenna up on to the dash.
I has about 7" of wire and strung it on the front of the dash down by
the windshield. Install the panel, glove box and the side that goes
to the
 right side of the radio.
After connecting to battery back up it works like a champ.
