Osceola Car Show
Well, since Douglas Fifield hasn't sent in a report yet (at least not
that I saw), I figured I'd send in a brief report.
The show was last Saturday in Osceola, Wisconsin, located about 1 hour
from the Twin Cities. Douglas and I met up in Stillwater and convoyed up
to the show from there. Douglas' idea is to "show" your car so that you
don't have to walk a few blocks just to get into the show. Of course I
went along with that idea, so into the show we went. The staff attempted
to direct us to where the rest of the German cars were, but all we could
see was a bunch of BMWs and one Porsche, so we staked out our own area
for the "German - Other" category (aka Audi). Well out of over 1000 cars
of various makes and models at the show, there were only 3 Audi
vehicles. An S6, an A4, and a 90S. After prelimary judging took place,
the S6 and the A4 had finalist tags on the cars, the 90S (mine) has a
few body dings from the previous owner and both the S6 and A4 looked
great. Well, the S6 decided to leave, so when the judges came around for
final judging, they were only left with 2 cars in the "German - Other"
category, so the A4 took first and the 90S took second.
So I won second place, kinda by default, but a win is a win. :-) Overall
there were fine examples of almost every car you could think of,
American, European, and Japanese. We were even graced by the presence of
George Harris, who gave a brief speech and was signing autographs.
Probably the most fun was sitting around eating lunch and sipping a beer
(courtesy of Douglas) and answering people's questions about Audi's in
general. Makes me glad I've paid so much attention to the QList,
especially about cars other than my own.
The sponser of the show is a publishing house (sorry I can't remember
the name) and they opened their warehouse for show-goers, I picked up a
Audi book for 15% less than cover price, so I can't complain.
So I guess to end it all, lets get more Audi's up there next year! I'm
sure you guys with "nicer" cars than mine wouldn't mind a chance at
winning first or second place. By the way, the key is to get there
early, we showed up around 9:10AM and were able to basically drive right
in. Douglas arrived later last year and had to wait for a while in line
to get in to the show.
