Re: URQ bleedin brakes
I'll wade in on the comment regarding system failures. Audi power
steering racks using Dexron had an absolutely horrendous failure rate.
We used to change or rebuild 2 or 3 a month in our small (2 bay) LA
shop. Over a period of 2 or 3 years, we even did some of them over
again. Remans from the major rebuilders, ones done in house, Audi
remans, didn't matter, they all were doomed to a short lifespan. I even
did one in a 77 100 LS. Knock on wood, I have yet to replace a rack in
an 84 and up Audi. Considering the labor to change a rack can easily
approach the list price of a later pump, a few pump failures on the late
cars doesn't seem so bad. We probably have 30-40 later 5Ks in on a
regular basis, and have sold only 3 pumps in 12 years. One car had a ZF
reman failure in 2 weeks, so we did that one twice. In fact, since we're
on system failures, we've sold only 3 bombs for Audis, one for my own
car, but quite a number of them for both BMW and Jaguar. Ahhh, Jaguar,
now there's a system to make you feel good about your Audi. They have
Pentosin leaks where there isn't even any Pentosin! Tradition, I guess.
