... perhaps, but given the fact that strut cartridges are more oft replaced
than springs, I actually like the fact that that "lickered-up" engineer
designed the thing so that I can replace the cartridges without even using a
spring compressor!  A side benefit of the design is the fact that the upper
strut bearing is so large that it spreads the load quite well ...

... one thing that I've learned in 20+ years of engineering work is that
there isn't often a perfect solution that resolves all issues and has no
drawbacks ...

... lately I'm starting to really appreciate the way that Audi has designed
things ... I'm having to do some major work on my BMW motorcycle ... which
wouldn't have nearly been so major on an Audi ...
