I've done it several times by myself using a floor jack to lift the motor ... 
the one under the turbo is a real bitch for those of us with large hands, 
though.

As for motor mounts looking okay but being worn out, when I pulled the motor 
out of my 200q, I found that both of them were completely broken -- 
literally, the rubber had separated from the metal! -- yet the car still ran 
fairly smoothly and it wasn't immediately obvious upon a casual inspection.
