RE: RE: Distributor alignment

Remember a four stroke engine will bring the piston to TDC twice in a cycle:

(start at ~ TDC) - intake - (to BDC) - compression (to TDC) - power (to
BDC) - exhaust to (Start- TDC)

The red dot on the fly wheel can be in location twice with-in the same cycle
and if you set the spark to fire at the end of the exhaust stroke she no go!

Mine is at the mechanics with a refurbished head and they are just having
difficulty getting it to spark. It would seem to be related to the timing
window being very tight on the turbos and a new timing belt might have
stretched a bit already. I hope it's just something simple like that.

Unless there is a red mark on the flywheel for bottom dead center, I was
there.
The number one piston was at the top of it's stroke.
What is wrong with yours?

If you're not sure that number one is at TDC on the compression stroke, try
doing a (one) full rotation on the crank - you may be off by 180 degrees.

I'm going to send this to the list in case I'm wrong - wait for a confirming
reply from someone else.

Folks,
Many of you have provided advice for changing out my distributor, which I
did
last night, but unfortunately the car still does not start, fault code 2113
(misaligned distributor) is displayed. I did not mark the position of the
old
one before I took it out, dumb huh? Last night I set the engine to TDC, I
think, the red mark on the flywheel was centered in the hole and the #1
piston
was at the top of it's stroke.?.?.? Anyway, once that was set, I aligned
the
rotor to point at the #1 plug wire and the notch on the distributor.
Tightened
the 13mm nut to hold down the distributor and....nothing. No start. Still
code
2113. I'm throwing in the towel, please help.
