        the engine WILL start but only after extended cranking (3-6
seconds)
       and it is NOT running on all cylinders.
      the engine will not exceed 1800 rpm and the more fuel you pile
on,the more the
      engine wants to backfire

Did you get under the hood & possibly disturb the ECU ground?
Check all grounds under the hood while you're at it.
