Re: Locked Diff = Twichy/Oversteer?

Oversteer? I don't think that's the definition as you described it. What
you describe is the 'scandinavian flick' which forces the rear end out,
allowing you to enjoy an predictable understeering condition after
overshooting the apex, or less predictable understeer as you lift throttle.
As one who regularly flicks, what you describe can't be oversteering
condition on or off throttle, it's really just early apexing, with predicted
understeer. To confirm this, I can share that at a certain slip angle
difference, a locked quattro will understeer ad infinitum, and the best
tactic, is to ditch the fight, and turn the wheel with the slide, allowing
for a controlled spin. Several on this list have been with me while
executing this manuever at Steamboat. It's slow, it's delicate, and it's not
anything close to an "oversteer" spin.

Thanks for sharing the experience. I beg to differ as to your loose
definition of 'oversteer'. Although most 'reviews' might agree with your
experience (me included), few call it oversteer. One can flick, but one
can't maintain an oversteering moment with or without throttle in a locked
center diff. To contrast this experience, I encourage you to try your hand at
the wheel of a torsen center quattro. WOTO/u and LTO/U are common
experiences in the same corner.
