5K turbo pressure - how much?

I am looking for information about what is the normal output for the
turbo on my 86 5KTQ.  I have read that it should get as high as 1.4 bar,
but the most I have attained is 1.2 under full throttle 3 rd gear
--let's catch that BMW--type of  acceleration, and very rarely does it
go above .9 bar.  Also, something that I find very curious is the
readout while starting which briefly bounces around 1.7 to up over 2 bar
and drops down as the car starts. Is this normal? The car sure seems to
have good acceleration, but maybe it could be even better....
