RE: 2.7tt/S4 K03 or K04???

I was talking to a friend that is a tech at a local dealership. When he 
went
to training class on the 2/7tt the first thing they teach is how to remove
the engine! Because almost any major work (I read turbo replacement here)
requires the engine come out. The first training information that arrived 
at
the dealer was a video of, you guessed it, how to remove the engine.
Just think how much damage _some_ of those technicians could do during
repairs.

Jim, it was my understanding that you didn't have to pull the engine to get 
at the turbo's and they could be accessed from below.  If this isn't true 
then I'm thinking there could be a lot of these cars on the market since 
few people will pay the price of pulling the engine for major 
service/repairs.

But that's only my opinion and my speculation.

Please note that I say _some_  tech because I was a dealership tech for 10
years and there are some very good technicians in the dealerships, it is
often the management that causes quality problems. Too often "time spent" 
is
the primary gauge of technician performance. This type of management often
creates an adversarial environment that affects quality. A good tech that 
is
rushed will make mistakes. If fear of management exists then, when a tech
causes a problem they cover it up or pretend it is not there and hope the
customer doesn't notice and the motto becomes "Deny every thing and demand
proof".
In 10 years at the dealership (3 of them) I went through 8 service 
managers,
some good & some bad. I often got lectures on  my "efficiency" from some
managers others noticed my quality and customer satisfaction. I never made
as much money as some tech that could ignore problems or cut corners.
While working for a high quality independent repair shop (8yrs) we would 
get
nightmare cars from other shops all the time, customers says "I just had my
car at ?????? and now ????? happens. The worst ones were always from quick
lube shops, tire shops and the corner gas station repair shops,. The
nightmare cars we got from the dealerships were usually smaller problems 
and
happened less often.
It pays off to get to know the technician that is working on your car, you
then become a person instead of and unknown owner. This is easier to do in 
a
small shop.

work on the
		turbos is a major pain because they're buried somewhere
