Why does everyone seem to have such a problem with this?

In the US (or at least in Mass) I get 4 free glass replacements a year from 
my insurance company.  I'm allowed to break my own glass in and everything.

And I always use a new rearview mirror, with the included glue.  If you use 
a light mirror and a good quality glass for your windshield, why would it 
break?

If you have this kind of insurance, why not just get factory-tinted, new, 
shiny glass...
