shock absorber replacement

Andrew Pawlisz - you the man!! I just replaced the front shocks on my 86
5KTQ using the method you posted. All other references I found
indicated having to remove the whole strut and I am very thankful to you
for saving me that trouble. It is true that the caps holding the shocks
in the strut were a major PITA to remove, but they eventually came (with
the assistance of an 8 foot iron pipe on the wrench). All the rest of
it went sooooo smoothly, I didn't even have trouble with the top nut on
the shock. One thing I did do that I don't think you mentioned, was
that I scribed the location of the top shock mount before removing it.
That way I could put it back in exactly the same position to maintain my
camber setting. What a difference in ride. I won't even describe the
old shocks out of embarrassment at letting them get that bad.

Side note to Huw Powell - I just visited your website and think its
great. I for one sure appreciate you sharing your knowledge and
experiences. You might consider adding this shock absorber replacement
method to your site. Just a suggestion.
