RE: The "OFF" current consumption is 55 ma. Excessive or not?
I can't recommend Optima red top gel cell batteries enough. I don't feel
worried at all about not carrying jumper cables. Truly a superior battery.
I haven't checked my "at rest" current consumption, but I will.

Subject: The "OFF" current consumption is 55 ma. Excessive or not?
Folks,
the battery on my '97 S6 died yesterday and does not want to accept the
charge. I jump start the car, the voltmetre jumps to 14.5, then slowly
recedes to 13.6v and stays there. Let the car run for half an hour. Key
off - no start. Battery is at 9.5v (one cell is shorted?) The battery is
OEM German, only 2 years old.
I measured the current consumption with everything off - was 55 ma.
I am used to thinking that normal would be ~ 30 ma (alarm, ECU, clock).
Any light bulb would take ~400 ma, so the trunk light staying on is out
of question.
55 ma seems border line OK.
Could some kind soul measure the current consumption with all the
consumers switched off on his S car for me?
Thanx,
