fresh air door spring

I have a problem.  Behind the glove box inside the car there is a
recirculation door on the firewall that has a spring attached to it but
when I disassembled it the spring was broken.  I have a new one to put
back in and I assume that one end of it goes in the center part of the
door in the condenser box, but I can't find anyplace to hook the other
end of the spring.  The Audi Bentley manual is not very definitive about
this one little spring.  If anybody knows where to hook both ends of
this spring, I would appreciate the sharing of the knowledge.

We are talking about a 1987 Audi 5000S Quattro, non turbo.
