RE: Scratch removal
Alexander,
If you have access to a variable speed buffer, you should be able to get rid
of most of these. I bought a DeWalt for about $210 and consider it a
worthwhile purchase. My car had the finish of #220 grit sandpaper and many
scratches when I bought it. I've used the Meguilar's line of paint cleaners
(#1 medium cut, #2 fine cut, and #4 heavy cut) to remove "paint deep"
scratches. Start with the least abrasive first to see where it gets you
relative to the surrounding paint. After removal, use a polish (no wax) to
restore clear coat, the 2 coats wax. Will look great. If scratches go below
paint, find a tube of touchup for your paint code, plus a tube of clearcoat.
Use just enough paint to come slightly above surface level of surrounding
area, let dry to 3-4 hours depending on humidity. You should be able to make
an impression with your thumbnail (not to hard!) Use the medium cut cleaner
on a soft rag to blend the paint down to surface area (my home version of wet
sanding-please no flames from body or paint folks.) Let dry for 24 hr.,
clearcoat, and wax after 2 weeks.
Hope this helps,
