Re: Avant, Variant, Brake....
I bet the "brake" part had to do with shelter. I think a hunting blind and
the natural wind brake created by shrubs and grasses came to take on the
same meaning and, when applied to a vehicle that could haul all your
hunting/camping needs, naturally lead to shooting brake.
