Harness mounting???
I saw some racing (4 pt) harnesses in a few type 44's at Road America and
that is something I want to do for the front seats in my car. Not for
everyday use, but I want them there as an option and mainly for track use.
My only concern is the mounting point. Most of the ones I saw had them
mounted to the fram behind the rear seat. The strap for the shoulder
harnesses comes out from inbetween the back and the seat bottom of the back
seat. Looks great as you can stuff them under the seat and then just pull
them out when you want them!
But, my concern is this.... I have heard a few people tell me that it is
bad to use a mounting point too low for race harnesses because if you are in
an impact, it can put to much pressure downward on you and actually compress
one's spine! This is not good. But, I have seen enough quattros with the
belts mounted in that same place, so maybee it it ok. Just not sure if it
is high enough. I'd really like to know as that would be a great place for
them, I think.
So, if I get harnesses, where is the best place to mount them in the type
44? I'm looking for convenience as well. And welding a custom roll cage is
not an option so don't say that!!!! ;^)
Looking for any suggestions or BTDT's.
