Catalytic Converter warning
About 3 weeks ago, I brought my 93 90CS in for the fuel injector
recall. At the same time I had them check out the cat-converter, which
had just started rattling. The driver's side cat was diagnosed and the
part ordered. I got my car back Thursday evening, planning to use it
for a weekend trip. On my way home Friday (the next day), I noticed
the car was losing power. Pressing on the accelerator felt numb, like
the time a fuel injector failed (under warranty @40K miles). I
original feared that they had screwed up the fuel injector recall. I
had to get it towed to the dealer and they determined that the material
in the cat had come free and clogged it. I was lucky in that the part
had already been ordered the day before. It was repaired on Monday, so
a 3-business days wait, unless your dealer stocks the part.
I guess my point is that if you hear any signs of your cat rattling.
Get it fixed sooner than later.
regards,
Daniel
