Bucking 4K
I jump started my '86 4KCSQ that has been hibernating in my garage for the
past 2 years. She started fine, blew a little smoke and tapped like hell
for about 10 minuets - after that she sounded sweet. I drove to the closest
service station for some air and fresh gas. Twice on the trip the car
bucked pretty hard and the RPMs dropped to 0 and jumped back to normal - all
in less than a second. My wife, who drove the car 2 years ago (before she
got her '90 CQ) thinks that it is the fuel pump. I must admit that she is
usually right in diagnosing car problems, however I think she's off here.
While there is a crackling sound coming from the rear of the car, which
might be the fuel pump, the symptoms lead me to think there is something
else going on here. If the fuel is cut off from the engine and the car is
still in gear and rolling I don't see how the RPMs could drop the way they
did, I've run out of gas before, this seems like an engine or transmission
problem. Any speculations?
