And the Owners Manual ...

It's interesting to kick Family Pictures into German.  The overview of
the rear differentials refers to them identically - "Ausgleichsantrieb
mit Differentialsperre".  Only the heading for the ALZ is different -
"Ausgleichsantrieb" on the top line, "Sperrdifferential" on the second.
I would have thought them equivalent.  It's always confused me, because
there's no obvious hardware (clutch pack, etc.) that would perform the
function.

No.  Audi want nearly $700 for it.

The MB and RR share the accelerometer ABS system.  I was surprised to
find recently that some late 1987 built WRs also have it.  Things are
more blurred than even I thought.

I found an interesting car in a junkyard a while back, and I think I've
finally sorted it out.  It had a rectangular hydraulic fluid reservoir,
which I'd never seen before.  According to Family Pictures, this is a
sign of a self-leveling rear suspension - a car with THREE bombs!
