He's changed his tune from when I spoke to him.  I wanted to know why
the UK was the only country in the world not to have the 1.8TQ.

He said it was his decision because he felt the extra capabilities of
quattro merited a larger engine and he wanted to differentiate the
1.8 and 2.8 more than the factory had done.  He took considerable flak
from about thirty members for this statement (it was a public Q&A) but
maintained that the German market needed lots of options to compete
feature by feature with the competition, but the English-speaking
markets were much simpler and just needed vertical positioning using
fewer and more standard packages.  He got an earful for that, too.
