I hate to say this but in the short time I have owned a well-taken-care-of
4KQ, I've gone through several door handles, numerous interior and exterior
trim pieces, heater control cables, electrical problems, window and mirror
switches, seatbelt retractors, and poor engineering/quality control
hmm interesting, my 86 5kcdtq with 322000 km (193000 mi) has had the
best reliability of any of the previous 50+ vehicles i have owned. i have
owned it for about 4 years and driven it almost 100000 km (60000 mi) and
apart from normal maintenance all it has required is a starter and a
hydraulic pump and a bomb. i'd say thats not bad for a 14 year old vehicle
with high mileage. i just did a weekend trip of 2500 km to northern quebec
and back with no fears of failure and it rewarded me with a great drive and
outperformed all who dared to play.
