Should I or shouldn't I....

Collective wisdom,
Aside from my revitalized Type 85, I have a company car. I drive the Q, and
my wife drives the Dodge. I was driving by one of our offices today and saw
something that caught my eye. A Porsche/Audi specialty repair facility had a
"for sale" sign in a V8 Quattro with no license plates on it. I'm in the
shop's parking lot removing the hook from my mouth when a tech comes out to
talk to me. He says it's a '90 (door panel VIN plate says 6/89 build) that
the owner didn't want to spend the money repairing, so he sold it to the
shop. Preliminary info: bluish/grey color, body color wheels (look like 200
wheels) 128k miles, gray leather interior, new steering rack, new valves
(owner's major beef), new water pump+timing belt(s?), battery, tires look
brand new. Interior very clean and not smoked-in, engine compartment
spotless, everything seems to work fine, brake pedal pressure feels good. I
will investigate further, having absorbed much from you folks about Type 44
problems. Shop was looking for $7500, but may go as low as $6500 if pushed.
I haven't driven the car yet, but I did start it and the engine purred like a
cat. I am aware of the fact that I have been spoiled by relatively low
prices for 4kq parts and that a bad V8Q can eat my lunch quickly. Should I
walk away, or if it's in good shape upon second inspection, should I do it?
I think my wife would love the creature comforts, plus it would be a real
hoot to own two quattros. BTW, the shop owner, doubtfully a lister, is an
Audi and Porsche nut, as evidenced by his private collection in the back.
Any advice from the group would be very helpful in my decision-making process.
