RE: Oil pressure questions
Bill,
BTDT very recently. The key is that you have to think "where" in the system
the sender is reading pressure. On the 4KS (4 cyl, I believe), you removed
the sender from the oil filter mount housing. On your 4KCSQ (5 cyl.) you
removed the old oil temp sender from the block. After my same problem, I
went back to a scrapyard and pulled the sender from a CGT (5 cyl.) that was
mounted on the block, and swapped them out (darn, that metal hose is sure in
a bad place!) Although I couldn't discern part numbers from the senders, I
believe them to be two different units. The only time I peg 5 bar now is
when the oil is cold. Normal operation at highway or under load is about 4.5
bar. Something else I discovered while doing this was a bad crankcase vent
hose (totally melted and leaking like a sieve.) It was a short section so I
replaced it with some leftover from changing hoses a while back and have seen
improvement in cold start situations.
Hope this helps you out,
