Re: Urq sorting out

Thanks for inquiring.
I took the car out yesterday with a fake plate (only a few blocks, no flames
please), and I still think I have something not right. A post I just read
about the "E-test from hell," got me to thinking that some of the vacuum
lines in the DCV area might not be connected to the right ports. That would
explain all the symptoms I keep getting. I haven't checked the fuel pressure
yet, so still need to eliminate that as a possibility.
Currently the car idles just OK (very stable but not quite right to the ear),
and gives the spec readings for DC and voltage output of the O2 sensor when
tinkered with long enough. These readings are so sensitive to the 3 mm
mixture screw that a barely perceptible turn of that screw sends it rich or
lean (i.e., ever slight turn CW sends O2 voltage to around 100 and the DC to
4.8; while a nudge CCW sends both to 600-700 and 62.7 respectively). This
tells me the sensors and ECU are trying to do their job but something is
preventing said result (say a vacuum source to the wrong port maybe?). The DC
valve does its buzz thing at the appropriate times, so I know it's
functioning. I do blip the throttle between adjustments and wait to let
everything settle in.
One interesting observation; I switched the idle & wot switch wires just to
see what would happen. The immediate throttle response was _amazing_ , (crisp
and instant) but the test readings wouldn't respond to any adjustments. I
have triple checked these switches for open closed (check out OK), and the
Bentley is quite clear on the wiring.
Everything works properly at one time or another, just not all at the same
time. When it does, from all indications, I think I'll be smilin'.
Appreciate all input and ideas.
