I did the similar job on my 4000q, which has small 'access holes' to get at
the nuts through.
Could not get a socket wrench in (Too big) but could get just the socket
iself in. Could not get an open end spanner to quite reach (too much of an
angle to grip).

Ended up welding a short piece of bar stock (perhaps 1/4" or so dia, and 6"
long) crosswise to the top of a socket (sort of looks like a cocob pipe
when you are done)
Sure the socket is sort of useless for anything else. But it sure worked
well for this job!
