Re: A New Look at Torsens
HAS TO DO WITH EARTH'S MAGNETIC FIELD.
maybe also with the relative humidity. England and NZ are islands after all.

On a more serious note
I am not racing my RS2 but until now I have never experienced the bite. What
I have felt is some times the front wheel going wide and then the rear
following in a much wider way.
May I note that the Greek tarmac is notoriously slippery?
On the other hand my CT Discovery Land Rover was giving me some sort of
"spider bite" until my LR wrench fitted a TorSen diff at the rear axle.
Since then the Camel is only tail happy. Some initial, but controllable
widening of the front wheels turning radius is happening still but anyway
these things happen off-road and not on tarmac.
As for the magnetic fields and humidity I guess you must have understood
that I am kidding.
I am respecting the opinion and apparent knowledge of all four "contestants"
but my opinion is that the spider bite may also be a matter of personal
experiences and judgement. In addition I believe that it should be clarified
whether the "bite" is happening more often at the race track or on the road.
If it is a road incident then I guess we can characterise it as dangerous
but only when driving at the limit, which, in any case, is something that
should not happen in the first place.
If it is happening on the race track, then it is up to the professionals the
find a way the either eliminate it or control it.
As for my personal experiences of TorSen diffs I would not change the set up
of the RS2 for anything else. And I really enjoy the way the 3 tonnes heavy
Discovery is happy tailing after fitting a TorSen at the rear.
