Re: Various 96 A6Q questions

I can't answer all of your questions, but here goes on the other ones:

3. Is 23 MPG normal on a long trip traveling 70-80 MPH?
I get more like 27-30 on highway traveling 70-80mph. On one trip through
Wyoming I got 30mpg with the AC on, three people in the car, mostly between
80-90mph. Temp was about 80 degrees out. I'll get around 23mpg city.

5. I was told that there are no aftermarket CD changers for the non-Bose
system. Dealer only? I only want a changer that will work with the factory
controls. Dealer quoted me $620.
I think this is unfortunately the case. Try Blau though or some of the
other Audi vendors (Carlson). I think they had a changer for $400 or so.

6. My owners guide says that the passenger side mirror will "dip" when the
car is put into reverse. Mine does not. Any suggestions on a fix?
Make sure your mirror adjustment knob on the center console is set
correctly. I think it needs to be set to the passenger side mirror. Check
your owner's manual to be sure.

7. I will be moving to Minnesota in a few months. Any snow-tire
recommendations?
I just put a set of studded Hakka 1's on my 95 A6Q. Wow. I took a drive in
the mountains early, early Sunday morning and the car didn't even give a
hint of wheelspin on some very treacherous ice and snow covered roads.
Nothing I would even think about trying with a 2wd car. I went up a short
section with a 12% grade, totally ice covered, rear diff locked, with
absolutely no problem.

8. Will snow chains be necessary with the Quattro system?
No. See number 7. I think the only thing that will stop this car in snow
is the ride height. Chains won't help that.

Thanks for all the help.
