Stonegard for A6
I had this kit installed on my 92/100CSQ and was quite happy with
the finished result. I have also done an installation on a 99
Passat with less pleasing results. The difference was primarily
the installation. On the A6/100 I had it done by a small ICE
seller who also did tinted windows. He had a trick that he used
which did not conform with the quite explicit instruction
pamphlet. I think he used I mild soap mixture as the install fluid
vs the water and alcohol mix that is recommended. The result was
that I had no air pockets on the Audi but still have them on the
Passat which I did myself by the book. I may not have had enough
alcohol in my mixture so to speak, and I may not have kept the
skin wet enough during the install, though I surely tried hard to
do that.
Before the Audi install, I had been peppered by stone nicks from
regular suburban driving and lots of Inter States. The car was
repaired and I did the install right after that and never saw
another nick. It is quite difficult to get the film moulded to
compound curves like wing mirrors and the inside cups of door
handles. The latter I was unable to work on either car. It is also
unclear where some of the pieces are designed to fit, but that may
also be my reverse polish logic.
On balance well worth it and much less overdress than bras which
to me are like wearing over shoes to a cocktail party/disco or
even around the house.
