Grumbling about Ground Clearance

Hello all-

I've been "hiding" for months because life with the A4
Avant has been primarily enjoyable. However, one thing
that drives me nuts is the lack of ground clearance.
Any of you have similar prollums? 

Couple of weeks ago, in Lake Tahoe, whilst "rallying"
down a dirt road, apparently a stick, log and/or pine
cone nabbed the plastic engine/noise protector and
ripped it out, tearing away the left wheel well guard
and leaving the right guard dangling. The CAT has some
new decorative pieces of plastic jammed in it. This is
the same Audi that I got stuck in pouring rain and mud
(high sided, all wheel spin). In any case, my old '89
200 QTW seemed to be a lot more "rugged" off road.

The A4 is the sport model--so about 4 inches of ground
clearance. Anyone know what the GC for older Audis is?
How about the new A6 4.2?

PS: the A6 4.2 is friggin' awesome looking--much more
steroidal than the stocker.
