Many thanks to those who responded.  Since the vehicle in question is NOT
a bus (they're known as Kombi's, and still available new BTW) I was wrong
in calling it a type 2. 

The car is a type 3 or 4 (amazing how checking the purdy pictures in a
book edumakate oneself).  As suggested by John I have requested some
picures of the car and any specs available, and will let you know as soon
as I get them and put them up on a web somewhere.
