Snap, crackle and pop (Bose stereo)

91 200 Quattro that came with the Bose system. Previous owner replaced
the head unit with Alpine in dash CD unit. It does not seem that anything
was done to the speakers (I've crawled into the trunk and the rear parcel
shelf speakers are still Bose and I don't see normal looking speaker wire
going into them).

Anyway, the problem: I have had a high pitched wine coming from the rear
speakers. It is not dependant on the RPMs, but comes on when I first turn
the stereo on. The pitch slowly decreases and then stops. If that wasn't
annoying enough, now I'm getting pops from the speakers in the rear.

What to do? I looked through the archives and ended up confused with the
responses to similar questions. I plan on going to a stereo shop and
having the rear speakers replaced and having some re-wiring done (perhaps
normal speaker wire running to the rear speakers). Any opinions? I'm not
an audiophile, but it's pretty annoying the way it is now.
