RE: Lousy AM band reception
Well, assuming that the 200q is like the V8, the only dash speakers that you
get with the Bose system are connected to the hands-free phone ... :) Funny
thing is that I learned this after talking to Chris Semple about pulling one
for the left side dash on my car. You only have four speaker modules with
the Bose system, two in the rear deck and one in each front door. If you
were complaining about a faulty speaker in the driver's door, I would
suspect the loom that goes to the driver's door, but in any event, if it is
the speaker itself what we have found is that you can get remanufactured
speakers from Audi for a halfway reasonable price (at least with the Carlsen
discount :).
On the reception problem, I did post my experience before, and the follow on
about making sure that there is power to the antenna amp was an excellent
one. You can easily teel whether the problem is in the cable or the amp by
pulling the inner cover on the left side "C" pillar, and unscrewing the
antenna cable from the amplifier module. Turn the radio on and set the
tuner to a frequency where there is an AM station that you should be able to
receive. Touch the center conductor of the antenna cable and notice if the
reception gets any better or not. If the reception improves, the problem is
in the amplifier (and the first thing to do is to verify that the amplifier
is getting power). If the reception doesn't get any better, then it is the
cable. As I mentioned in the earlier post, based on Anton's work, I'm
fairly certain that if there is a problem with the cable at all it will be
at the point where it hooks to the back of the deck ...
If your car has a whip antenna and does not have good AM reception, then it
is probably a very simple problem where someone connected the antenna lead
to the wrong connector on the deck ...
