More noises from engine/trans, this one sounds bad!

    Started car up past two days and the second I got it in drive and
accelerated it made a nasty whirring noise.  The noise sounds
transmission/diff, but I tried something today in the garage to test it, car
in neutral and accelerated, the noise was still there.  The noise gets
louder with more acceleration.  Then it dissapears after less than a minute.
Hard to describe the noise, but is rather disconserting since I have a
suck-o-matic 3 speed.  ATF level is perfect, fluid is yellowish brownish.
Awaiting ATF tranny pan gasket and Castrol Synth ATF.
    Like a whine almost, like rrrrhhrhrhrrr, louder with more gas.
