Engine Cleaning
Mark, I clean my engines with Gunk Engine cleaner about once a year.
Does a great job, but does stink up the car for a couple of days. I
spray it on the warm engine at the local hi-pressure car wash, let it
sit a few, then spray it off. Be careful where you apply direct, close
range streams of water, factory stickers can get removed, water in the
distributer won't help you leave the place when you are done, and the
last thing the Audi electrical system needs is 2000 PSI water injection.
The main reason I write, however, is that I once used Castrol's Engine
Cleaner, and this sh!t is as caustic as battery acid. It will remove the
yellow zinc protective coating of factory fasteners/brackets, etc., as
well as dull aluminum surfaces. Beware of these cleaners!!!!
