ROF,L!!!
I've sent this post on to Roger Galvin and the Reverend Timothy Smith.
"Hand of God" indeed!
Roger called this morning and asked if he could borrow the MityVac because
he suspected the vacuum advance wasn't working on the Reverend's car. I
went over this afternoon to try. The MityVac (a wonderful device) showed
the system had no leaks, but watching the Hall sender plate - it wasn't
moving.
So I pulled the distributor and took it to the bench. The Reverend's
problem? The vacuum arm wasn't engaged in the plate. Trust me - I
have witnesses!
Best technique is to mount the vacuum actuator putting a loose screw
in the short 'leg' - then use a long pointy probe to push the arm and
platform about until they engage.
The "hand of God" certainly hadn't been helping the Reverend out.
