what's that connector for

I just recently purchased an 88 5Ks quattro and while looking at the battery under the rear seat I noticed a two wire plastic connector (like the one on the idle stablizer) just to the right of the battery (on the negative side)not connected to anything.  It appears to be a factory connector.  The power lock vaccum pump is connected on the other side of the battery as well as the anti-lock brake control module on the other side of the seat.  If any other 5Ks quattro owner knows what this connector is for please respond.
