86 5kcst
Just acquired an 86 5000csturbo. A co-worker of mine gave it up for $300!
It is in beautiful condition, he had just spent almost $4000 on repairing a
bad experience he had with a local chain repair shop, they replaced a
supposedly bad timing belt, then cut up some of the wiring under the hood,
they were expecting to be the ones to do the repairs, fortunately he towed
the car away and had the repairs done elsewhere. Anyway, this car has 165k
on it, he had a valve job done on it, new computer, and numerous other
things done on it, he also put new bakes & tires on it since this was his
dailey driver. It runs great, but it does have a tendency to not want to
start. The engine sounds like it's going to start, but it won't turn over,
almost as if there is no spark. If you let it sit or try again later, it
will start. The idle at times is a bit low, and it has stalled for my
husband 2x's at the stop sign. After he pushes it out of the way, he gets in
and it starts right up. When this has happened, he also lost the instrument
panel lights and the sun roof quit and didn't completely shut. I drove it
today, it started right up and I was able to operate the sun roof and close
it. Still no instrument panel lights or radio...that went out also. There
seems to be no association with temperatures/fuel capacity etc.. For $300, I
figured I could afford to try it out. I'm in love with the car!! Just wish
I could call it a little more reliable. Any advice?
