let's keep this simple... the q and 2wd shifter's are completely
different except for the knob.
The 2wd uses the $50-60 plastic ball thing, they are either good or
bad. It also has a nice complicated "thing" under the floor pan to get
the motion exactly where it is wanted. early cars you can dismantle the
"thing" and replace all the soft parts - photos and part numbers are on
my web site. The later ones (84 or 85 on) use a single articulated
piece that cannot be rebuilt and serves exactly the same function. part
number, 811 711 613 C; price, unknown in US but my little elf says they
are about 400 GBP (!!!!!!).
the Q I am much less familiar with but you have read it described here
recently. I'm too lazy to look up the part numbers right now.
