100LS information.

Cut my professional working teeth on these things. Did 27 (!) manual
trannys in 12 months at the dealership. Also 2 autos. They had high
compression carbed engines the first 3 years, then lower comp in 73/74,
then CIS in 75-77. PS racks, and they're rare, require surgery to the
firewall or engine removal. Right motor mounts, from which the engine is
suspended, BTW, had a high failure rate. The good news is they were
about 30 bucks, the other good news is they have been NLA for about 15
years. The axles (to 74) require major surgery to reboot, but the front
wheel bearings and crush collar are unavailable. The carbs were a
problem from the getgo, and there were a pile of factory suggested
"fixes of the week". Electrical problems were really never an issue,
except for an occasional switch failure. BTW, those aren't available
either. front seal leaks, and, lest I forget, VALVE GUIDES!!!! Every 100
LS I worked on after I opened my own shop required at least one valve
job during the 4 or 5 years I serviced them until they all went by the
wayside. I remember one with a rough idle in which one of the guides had
completely disappeared! At least they never made a diesel. (AFIK.)
A car best fondly remembered or appreciated from afar. Drove nice,
though. John. There WAS a really nice S90 at Monterey, though.........
