The 5000/100/200 (type 44) cars are prone to steering rack failures.
This in addition to the hydraulic pump and PS hoses. All these
cause fluid leaks and may not be related to your dad's accident
at all.
The best deal for a replacement steering rack is the rebuilt unit from
Jorgen Automotive. About $180 exchange. Check the qlist archives about
how to get one. There has been plenty of discussion about this.
