Speedo fix

A month or so ago, my odometer decided that it was not going to work
regularly, so I disassembled expecting to find the usuall split "white gear"
and found that it was OK so I thought that it must be slipping, so I tried
the dot of adheisive on the end fix which did not fix the problem. Last
night after getting tired of no odo I decided to fix it. I had a spare
speedo head but it was rated differently as one said w=1560 and the other
w=1680 or similar differences. I assumed that they would read differently
though I know this is a calibration number. Anyone know? What I found the
problem to be was the metal gear clossest to the "white gear" but inside the
shaft holding arms. Deciding that I had nothing to loose, I removed the
white gear and partially removed the shaft allowing removal of the metal
gear. Then I used a punch to shrink the hole and reassembled. Works great
:-)
This is on an 84 4kq and the 85 4kq speedo head is quite different as I
looked into using an 85 low mileage head I had laying around.
While there I also replaced all hoses to the CC system as the car wouldn't
hold speed till warmed up.
