I felt the step this evening and it well pretty big. I will take
it up with the mechanic and the engineers about running a hone
through it. The measuring will first need to be done. I'm
hoping that it really is a hone job, couldn't see how that much
wear would equal 0.5mm. If it's hone then I guess I can just
have the pistons cleaned up (they've packed on the top with
deposits) and put back in with new rings.

I also thought the wear I felt this evening that maybe rings
would do the job, but then I was told it might be worn oval.
Once again, I must get the block to the engineers and get official
figures. However, it doesn't stop me from hunting down replacements
in the mean time just so it saves time.

Yup, noticed my spelling mistake. :) 9 weeks is ouch. :(

I saw Mahle offer a 81.51mm piston for the GV. It has all the
specs as the stock unit.
Whooops! GBP400 kills the amount the warranty will give. They
max out at GBP500 for the motor per job and with my finances
I'm going to need everything I can get.
Tomorrow I'll force the mechanic to take the block in and have
official measuring done and look into honing the thing out.

Will do. I'm not going to look at anything that didn't come
from a Audi turbo motor. I've looked at the Mahle figures
and it seems parts 0348300 and 0348301 are the units to
follow up on.
