V8Q questions
Listers,
The patient is a 1990 V8Q 3.6L with 129k miles on the clock. Recent work (1k
miles ago) includes new valve train and associated gaskets, water pump,
timing belt, and the three idlers (tensioners.) I am losing about one ounce
of coolant per day in drips and drabs (didn't notice a leak while changing
the OXS) and am noticing a cyclical (once every 2-3 seconds) soft "diesel"
type clatter from the timing belt cover. Performance is very good, coolant
temp gauge never exceeds 100 deg C in traffic. Should I seek recourse from
the shop that performed repairs? Problem is very recent and my wife is
cognizant of the "nip it in the bud" concept. Could the timing belt have a
wide spot on it that is contacting the tb cover and causing a momentary
coolant weep under pressure?
On another subject, after performing the "bomb" test, I am getting 4-6 pumps
after 2 minutes of idle, then shutting off the car. A very brief tap of the
brake pedal will cause a brief flash of the red "brake" idiot light below the
autocheck display. Pedal travel is acceptable, but my 4k engages much better
and much sooner into the travel. The pads are virtually new (G60 front
calipers in great shape, no leaks anywhere) and the pentosin and brake fluid
reservoirs are spotless. I'm buying a new bomb, right?
Thanks for your help,
