Okay, so, the consensus was that I wait to replace the belt...right?

Well, looks like I now have weekend plans. Like I should dare spend this
weekend (like any of the past three...) with anyone/anything other than
my Audi!
I thank you all for your insistence - probably saved me a valve/piston
job. I'll post results for better or worse when done.
