I've seen this "feature" on many cars, both Audi and non-Audi. A
friend of mine has got a '86 5kCS (NA I5 w/136 hp), it will "kick" in
at about 900 rpm to avoid the car from stalling. I think it's just the
idle controller giving the engine a bit more fuel. My dad's '90 Toyota
Camry exhibits the same behavior..
