88' 5kcstq no start/run update

Hey all,

I just worked a little bit on the '88 5kcstq I have that either won't
start or stay running if it does start.

I changed the plugs, and checked for spark. It has spark. Also,
for all the electrical connections I see around the top of the engine,
back of the head area, I pulled them apart and connected them a
few times, to break up any corrosion or nastiness. I did not use
any kind of contact cleaner.

Also, I checked all fuses, and looked underneath the fuse box,
looking for something wrong with the connectors that the fuel pump
relay plugs into. I discovered that the fuse block seems to be a
sealed box of some sort, with the connections I was looking for
inside of it. On the bottom, there are a bunch of harness plugs
which go into the box. Except for under the fuel pump relay. There
was only one wire connector underneath the fp relay location, and I
made sure that it was connected well.

Should I actually go inside that box somehow, and look at the fp
relay connections? If so, how do I get inside the box without
damaging it? It seemed like it would break if I messed with it too
much.

I noticed that when I try to start it for extended periods, I do NOT
smell any gasoline at the tailpipe.

I have replaced the fuel pump, and the fuel filter under the hood.
So, I'm thinking since I have spark, that there might be a problem
on the fuel side. Steve B. suggested I look at the fuel pressure
regulator in the fuel distributor area. What do I look for? Should I
just start taking it apart and looking for something awry? Like
what? I do have an (early) single volume Bentley for the car.

I didn't have any appropriate wire to jump the fuel pump relay, so I
stopped short of that. I do need to know if I'm supposed to jump
the "30" terminal to the "87" or the "87a" or both? Or, maybe I'm
supposed to jump some totally different ones? Please advise.

Thanks again,

Ken
